Healthy Bonbons

I’ve heard your cries of disappointment when you go to my blog and see no yoga pants and no bonbons. Alas, it may be a catchy name, but if the reader is left feeling unsatisfied, well the, wheat’s the good in that? Truth be told, I am a huge supporter of yoga pants, especially when chasing around children. Really, there is hardly a more flexible clothing item. As far as bonbons go, I didn’t have my first experience until I was in my 30’s. I found them much too sweet.

That being said, I’m sure you’ve heard the tongue in cheek expression being used for stay at home mamas, right? As in, ‘all we do is sit around in our yoga pants eating bonbons’. Insert laugh here…right. So, friends, I apologize for the literal translation of my blog name, but I’m fully confident that it still fits.

To keep the rest of the crowd happy, let us get to an actual recipe.

My two boy children have gone through various stages of life in which they become sensitive to specific foods. At first it seemed overwhelming and somewhat suffocating. The only safe place we could eat was at home, and even then, we had to carefully track food consumption and possible reactions. In time, we made significant progress and succeeded in healing the gut and were able to add back in all of the problematic foods.

This Healthy Bonbon recipe was born from the desire to create a satisfying and healthy snack that was free of gluten, added sugar, fruit, and dairy and was focused on nourishing fats and full of flavor. There are several options that can be utilized such as adding carob or dairy free chocolate chips to the recipe and/or dunking the Healthy Bonbons into melted carob or dairy free chocolate. Since it was near the holidays when I created this recipe, I topped our bonbons with shredded coconut and crushed candy canes from the health food store.
